Women's Basketball
The
CU women’s basketball team has called the Omaha Civic
Auditorium home for most of the team’s 34-year history,
beginning with games in the 1970s. The Bluejays have enjoyed
tremendous success in the facility, compiling a 190-84 (.693)
record through the 2007-2008 season. CU won 44 straight
home games between 1984 and 1987. Its home court winning
streak of 23 games from 2001-03 was one of the longest in
the nation at the time.
The
Bluejays have drawn record-setting crowds to the Civic since
the turn of the century. CU drew a school-record 4,439 fans
to a 2003 WNIT semifinal contest against Auburn. The following
season, 4,180 fans showed up to watch the Bluejays capture
the 2004 WNIT title in a blowout victory over UNLV. The
building also played host to a first-round NCAA Tournament
game in 1992. More than 3,500 fans were there to witness
Creighton Women’s first NCAA Tournament win, a 79-66
triumph over Long Beach State.
The Creighton Women’s Basketball Team enters its final
season at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in 2008 before moving
a few blocks north to the new Ryan Athletic Center and D.J.
Sokol Arena on Creighton’s campus.
